Exciting plans have been announced for the development of 72 new affordable homes in Woking, complete with amenities and parking. The project is being managed by Radian and the scheme is currently in the planning permission phase. This new affordable housing development will be spread across three apartment blocks on opposite sides of Portugal Road. This innovative project aims to regenerate a central part of Woking, providing much needed affordable accommodation for the community. The development shall contain a variety of one, two- and three-bedroom homes, to accommodate the substantial housing need in Woking. This includes:
- Two 3-4 storey buildings at 25-31 Portugal Road, comprising a total of 51 self-contained apartments (25x one bed, 24x two bed and 2x three-bed), which shall be delivered as Shared Ownership.
- Another 3-4 storey building at 12-16 Portugal Road containing 21 self-contained apartments (6x one bed, 14x two bed and 1x three-bed), which shall be delivered as affordable rent.
Planning permission is sought for the demolition of the existing buildings on site. There are two elements to the proposal: 25-31 Portugal Road (Blocks A& B) and 12-16 Portugal Road (Block C). The latter has a detailed planning permission dated March 2019 and that scheme has been redesigned as part of the current planning application in order that a more suitable development can be delivered for affordable rent.
