Members of Woking Borough Council’s planning committee voted unanimously to approve the creation of Victoria Square.
Woking Borough Council leader John Kingsbury praised the new market as “a bustling, vibrant hub for small traders offering a range of high quality food and produce that will benefit traders, visitors and above all, Woking.”

A JOINT VENTURE: The Victoria Square and Woking Fire Station planning application is submitted

Works to create Woking’s new state-of-the-art covered market begin, bringing a more diverse and vibrant market scene to the town centre. The relocation of the market has been necessary as part of the Victoria Square redevelopment, allowing for a new covered market with 27 stalls.

As renovation works to Commercial Way commence, the area between Alexander House and Provincial House will be the first to be enhanced, with new high quality granite paving, street furniture, lighting, new species of Sweetgum and Elm trees, and upgrades to the CCTV system.

JUBILEE SQUARE UNVEILED: Jubilee Square’s first piece of public art, ‘Winning Shot’ by Guildford-based artist, Christine Charlesworth is a bronze sculpture of paralympic basketballer Ade Adepitan MBE. Capturing Ade’s strength and determination, ‘Winning Shot’ has been unveiled along with two giant mosaics made up of over 10,000 tiny images depicting Borough residents’ memories of the cultural, sporting and Jubilee-themed events and activities that took place throughout 2012.
The centrepiece image, taken by local resident Adrian Meredith, is of Team GB’s Men’s Olympic Cycling Team whizzing past St Johns Church in West Byfleet.
