Café Scientifique: Women in Physics

from Thursday 30th January 2020 at 19:00
to Thursday 30th January 2020 at 20:30

Café Scientifique is a fun, engaging, informal way to discuss science and technology.
Dr Jess Wade was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the 2019 Birthday Honours for services to gender diversity in science. In this talk, she questions how attitudes, assumptions and stereotypes contribute to women avoiding science, and discusses wide-ranging initiatives and programmes that seek to address this. Her own research is into polymer-based organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), and her public engagement work in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), champions women in physics, and tackles gender bias on Wikipedia.
