Get 2020 off to a great creative start by showcasing your artistic flair as part of an exciting new initiative.
The Lightbox, in partnership with #WeAreWoking and Victoria Square Woking Limited, is now inviting entries for a major art competition designed to ignite, capture and reward local artistic talent.
Open to professional artists, schools, students, amateurs and enthusiasts – or anyone over 11 years old with an artistic streak and some great ideas – eligible entrants will be in with a chance to win a cash prize and have their work featured as part of a public exhibition next year.
Designed to inspire a new generation of artistic talent, the competition will also provide everyone with the chance to help contribute towards the new Victoria Square project with selected works going on permanent display throughout the development after it opens.
The public exhibition will celebrate the best artwork chosen by a high-profile panel of experts and created by those who live, work or study in the Woking borough area. The panel are also particularly interested in works that have a contemporary feel.
Marilyn Scott, Director of The Lightbox said:
“This competition open to all those connected with Woking is a fantastic opportunity for the people of the town to show off their artistic sills and really personalise the Victoria Square development. I can’t wait to see the submissions and encourage all those with artistic talents to put their best foot forward and get involved.”
Borough-wide initiatives like these are invaluable in helping to spread The Lightbox’s message that ‘art has the power to make you feel good’, as well as supporting its social purpose, to improve the quality and lives of its community.
Entrants can submit an application, including images of their artwork online at www.thelightbox.org.uk from 6 January 2020.
The Lightbox is also hosting a Zoom call on Friday 29th May at 2.30pm for a live Q&A with aspiring artists. Join Lee Cavaliere and Peter Hall as they throw open the floor to any questions you may have about the Victoria Square Art Project.
Don’t forget, submissions for the competition close at 5pm on Monday the 1st of June 2020. Selected artists will be notified by Wednesday the 1st of July 2020.
