LinkAble boss Alison raises over £1,500 after running over 25 hours.
As the clocks went back just a couple of weeks ago and most of us were grateful for that extra hour in bed, the CEO of Woking-based charity LinkAble, Alison Keeley, was still going the extra mile for a good cause – and in the absence of any sleep at all.
In completing the running challenge, Alison ran at least one mile every hour and managed to clock up over 30 miles in total within the 25 hour-target to raise an amazing £1,575 to date.
“I was a bit nervous before I started but the support I received from my friends, family, neighbours and the wider community in Woking was amazing. There were times when the challenge got really tough as I hadn’t slept, and was running the same route throughout the night, but the support and encouragement of my friends, and the knowledge that I was raising money for such a deserving cause kept me going.”
Alison shared her experience on Facebook Live and was delighted with the comments of support coming through.
“Even though people weren’t with me in person, I really felt like the whole community was cheering for me at the sidelines.” said Alison.
“The overnight runs were the most difficult and 5am run was definitely my biggest challenge. I was cold, tired and was getting very hungry! One of my friends even ran with me through the night in support of my efforts and once the sky started to lift at 6am everything looked a little brighter.”
Alison finished her running challenge in Woking Park.
“I had friends running with me to cheer me on throughout the challenge, but the final mile was by far the most exciting!”
Alison ran the challenge for LinkAble, a charity which delivers a wide range of services such as holiday schemes, crafts, cycling and drama to children and adults with learning disabilities in the Woking and Surrey Heath area.
